Manchester United are gradually coming to the conclusion that Lenni Yoro may not be a long-term solution to their defensive issues.
The 20-year-old defender has failed to secure a starting spot since his £58.9 million move from Lille in the summer of 2024. At that time, United won the race for his signature against Liverpool, Real Madrid, and PSG.
This season, Yoro has yet to make a Premier League start. In the first five matches, he has spent three on the bench, managing just 16 minutes against Ipswich and six minutes against Everton. He remained sidelined for matches against Manchester City and Fulham.
His only two starts came in the Champions League and the EFL Cup against Brighton, where he and his partner Aiden Heaven faced heavy criticism for a particularly poor showing.
According to TeamTalk, the defender is now fighting for his future at Old Trafford. His playing time could dwindle further with the imminent return of Matthijs de Ligt from injury. In the pecking order of defenders, Yoro lags behind de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and possibly even Heaven.
United are already actively scouring the transfer market. The club is monitoring Thiago Gabriel from Lecce, Finnish defender Jeltse from Stuttgart, and Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton as potential replacements.
