Liverpool may gain an advantage in the race for Monaco midfielder Lamina Camara.
According to journalist Mark Bruce, Chelsea are not planning to rekindle discussions over the Senegalese player after Monaco scuppered his move to London on the final day of the summer transfer window:
Multiple sources have confirmed to me that they do not expect Chelsea to make another attempt to sign Lamina Camara after the difficulties in negotiations with Monaco this summer.
The Ligue 1 club's last-minute decision to cancel Camara's transfer angered Chelsea's hierarchy, and the Londoners are not keen to do business with Monaco anytime soon.
This summer, Camara was viewed by Chelsea as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez. The Blues allowed the Argentine to join Manchester City for £125 million, anticipating they would wrap up the deal for the Monaco midfielder, only for the French side to pull the plug at the last moment.
Liverpool were also tracking Camara over the summer but shifted their focus towards bolstering their attack. Now, the Merseysiders may re-visit the midfielder's candidacy in January and are reportedly seen as favourites to secure his signature.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have turned their attention to other options. Their top targets for midfield reinforcements now include Alex Scott from Bournemouth and Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.
