Fabrizio Romano has dismissed ongoing negotiations between Manchester United and Fabian Hurzeler but confirmed interest from a member of the hierarchy. The shortlist also includes Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann, and Eddie Howe.

Renowned insider Fabrizio Romano has shared insights regarding the future of Manchester United's head coach Michael Carrick and the speculation surrounding Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler.

Carrick's side has made a dismal start to the current season, earning just six points from six Premier League matches and suffering a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in European competition. Amid mounting pressure and controversial comments from Lisandro Martinez in the press, discussions around the possibility of sacking Carrick and the names of potential successors have intensified.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano clarified the situation regarding interest in Hurzeler:

First of all, Fabian Hurzeler is a very young and talented coach who is doing a fantastic job at Brighton this season. The origins of these rumours stem from a specific individual within Manchester United's hierarchy who holds Hurzeler in high regard. It is this person who periodically brings up his name when discussing talented coaches and the managerial situation.

This is why Hurzeler's name is circulating around Manchester United. But let me clarify: firstly, there have been no contacts; secondly, there are no direct negotiations. Currently, Manchester United is not negotiating with any other managers as the club continues to back Michael Carrick.

Romano also added that Hurzeler is far from being the only name in discussions among the hierarchy. The shortlist of potential candidates in case Carrick is relieved of his duties includes three other specialists:

  • Antonio Conte - the Italian is open to taking on a top club mid-season, a departure from his previous approach.
  • Julian Nagelsmann - the coach is available for high-level work.
  • Eddie Howe - a name that also comes up regularly in the context of such appointments.
