In light of Lisandro Martinez's criticism of the club's transfer policy, it's worthwhile to reflect on the results of the summer 2022 transfer window when the Argentinian joined Manchester United. Alongside him, five other players arrived at Old Trafford. Here's how the fates of those remaining players have unfolded.
1. Antony
The Brazilian's transfer fee of £82 million epitomised the struggles the club faced in the post-Ferguson era. With less than stellar stats at Ajax, the winger predictably struggled at Old Trafford, netting just four goals in his first season and one in his second. After a successful loan spell at Real Betis during the latter half of the 2024/25 season, the Spanish side signed him permanently for £21.65 million. Antony now continues his career with Betis.
2. Casemiro
The experienced midfielder enjoyed several impressive years in Manchester, leaving his mark with his incredible goal-scoring ability from set-pieces (including a club record of nine headed goals in a season). After departing United in 2026, Casemiro moved to MLS side Inter Miami, reuniting with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, and continues to find the back of the net in the States.
3. Tyrell Malacia
The left-back cost the club £13 million, yet he managed only 50 appearances over four years. Following a loan spell at PSV, he featured in just three Premier League matches for United in the 2025/26 season before his contract expired. As a free agent, Malacia signed for FC Cincinnati in MLS, where he has made just one appearance.
4. Martin Dubravka
The Slovakian goalkeeper arrived as on-loan reinforcement for the goalkeeping position but only made two appearances in the League Cup before heading back to Newcastle. He later had a spell with Burnley, and last summer, he was signed by Tottenham as a backup keeper.
5. Christian Eriksen
The Danish midfielder, acquired on a free transfer, arguably became the most successful signing from that window. Over 107 matches, he scored eight goals and provided 19 assists. After leaving Manchester in the summer of 2025, he spent a season with Wolfsburg, where he faced relegation from the Bundesliga and is currently a free agent.
