Crystal Palace have officially announced the signing of 21-year-old right-back/winger Anan Halaili from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise.
The transfer fee is reported to be around £21 million, marking a record deal for the Belgian club. The Israeli international has signed a five-year contract with the Eagles, running until 2031, with an option to extend for another 12 months.
Last season, Halaili made 52 appearances across all competitions for Union Saint-Gilloise, contributing six goals and six assists while helping the team clinch their long-awaited championship in Belgium.
In his first interview for the club's official website, he highlighted his ambitions:
I have been following the Premier League closely for a long time. It’s a new challenge for me. I like Crystal Palace – I’ve been watching them for ages. They have rightfully won three trophies, but I want more. Three trophies aren’t enough. We want to achieve the most, and I’m here to help the team.
Of course, it’s the strongest league in the world. But I love new challenges, and I’m ready for them. I am strong, quick, and enjoy dribbling, but I also like tracking back. I want to show the fans my skills.
Following a triumphant season where the Eagles lifted the UEFA Conference League, the FA Cup, and the Community Shield, the team is now preparing for their campaign in the Europa League.
Halaili becomes the fourth summer signing for Palace, joining Oscar Mingueza, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Dwight MacNeil. The versatile 21-year-old's ability on the right flank will be an important asset for the new head coach, Pierre Saga, as they navigate a packed schedule.
