Galatasaray are preparing a new attempt to sign Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. The Turkish club is keen to bolster their defence following a poor start to the season, identifying the 35-year-old Dutchman as a key target.
According to Fotomac, Van Dijk has been on Galatasaray's radar for nearly two years. The club is ready to explore the option of a transfer in January, but Liverpool are reluctant to part ways with their skipper in the middle of the season.
As such, a move seems more feasible next summer. Van Dijk's current contract expires at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate with foreign clubs starting in January.
With the recent squad changes, the defender's role at Liverpool has become increasingly critical. Key players like Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate have departed, leaving Van Dijk as captain under Andoni Iraola. Other leaders in the squad include Alisson, Joe Gomez, and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Van Dijk could follow in the footsteps of another Anfield legend, Salah, who completed a nine-year stint at Liverpool and joined Trabzonspor in August.
Galatasaray are determined to strengthen their defence after a disastrous start to the season, including a 4-0 defeat to Trabzonspor. If they fail to strike a deal with Liverpool in January, the Turkish club may revisit their interest in Van Dijk once the season concludes.
