Raheem Sterling is still without a club three months after departing Feyenoord.
According to Foot Mercato, the English winger faced rejection from two Ligue 1 clubs who opted against signing the 31-year-old on a free transfer.
One of the teams that passed on the opportunity to bring Sterling on board was Le Havre, currently rooted at the bottom of the French league.
Sterling searching for a new club
Since parting ways with Feyenoord, Sterling has yet to find a new side. The England international is keen to continue his career at a high level and reportedly wishes to remain in Europe.
However, a return to England or a move to MLS are not among his current priorities.
As per Foot Mercato, two Ligue 1 clubs had the chance to sign Sterling for free, but neither option progressed.
While one of the clubs remains undisclosed, the other is Le Havre.
Disappointing period after Manchester City
Sterling made the switch from Manchester City to Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for around €60 million. He was one of the early marquee signings in the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital era.
Yet, he couldn’t establish himself in London for the long haul. Over his time at Chelsea, Sterling featured in 81 matches, clocking just over 5,300 minutes on the pitch.
This was followed by loan moves and further upheavals in a career now leading to his current free agent status.
Le Havre opts against Sterling
It’s particularly striking that among the clubs who were not interested in signing Sterling is Le Havre.
The team is experiencing a difficult start to the season, sitting dead last in the Ligue 1 table. Despite this, the club’s hierarchy chose not to take a chance on the experienced free agent.
Consequently, Sterling continues his search for a new team a few months after leaving Feyenoord.
