USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino has taken a stand on the Manchester City case, discussing the implications of their potential financial misconduct.
The Argentine feels that one sanction is insufficient to rectify the consequences of a protracted inquiry.
Pochettino reflected on his experiences in England, recalling his time at Tottenham, where his team contended with clubs boasting significantly greater financial clout.
Drawing from his own tenure at Tottenham, Pochettino highlighted the challenges faced in an unequal playing field.
“I mentioned before the situation with Chelsea when we competed for the title during my time at Tottenham: they were better because they earned more points, yet they were breaching rules,” he remarked.
He then posed a crucial question:
“How do you fix what has already been done?”
Pochettino emphasized that the issue transcends the punishment of a single club. He pointed out that many teams have adhered to the rules over the years, raising concerns about the fairness of competitive conditions.
Previously, Pochettino has stated that any penalty for Manchester City will not retroactively change past season outcomes.
“No matter what punishment they choose, you cannot turn back time. It has caused significant damage,” the coach stated.
