Newcastle are keeping a close eye on Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari and could make a move for the player in the January transfer window. Negotiations between the 22-year-old Swede and his current club over a new contract have hit a standstill.
With Ayari's current deal set to expire next summer, Brighton face the dilemma this winter: either finalise an extension or consider selling him.
The midfielder has enjoyed a blistering start to the season. He found the net in Brighton’s dominant 5-0 win over Coventry and played a crucial role in their victory against Arsenal.
Ayari continued to impress while representing Sweden too, scoring in the UEFA Nations League match against Poland where he clocked 89 minutes on the pitch, achieving a remarkable 92% pass accuracy. He also made two tackles and reclaimed possession for his team six times.
Newcastle's interest is partly driven by ongoing issues in their midfield. Head coach Matthias Jaissle is currently without several key players due to injuries, and Lewis Miley has been forced to fill in as a right-back.
If Brighton are unable to come to terms with Ayari over a new contract, Newcastle are poised to contest for the Swede during the upcoming winter transfer window.
