Milan's Inter were close to signing Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa during the summer transfer window. Insider Fabrizio Romano disclosed that negotiations had progressed much further than previously thought.
The Italian club saw the 28-year-old as an excellent option to bolster their attack at a reduced price. The transfer fell through primarily because Luis Enrique chose not to move to Roma, leaving the Giallorossi without an official bid for Chiesa.
Enrique's decision to remain in Milan instantly shut the door on Chiesa's potential return to Italy. Despite limited playing time since his transfer from Juventus in 2024, the winger was adamant about staying put at Liverpool.
Now sidelined from the first team and even omitted from the Champions League squad, a departure in the January transfer window seems the most logical step for Chiesa to salvage his career.
