Morgan Rogers' rapid adaptation and impressive form at Chelsea cast serious doubt on the future of fellow forward Jamie Gittens. The London club may revisit the player's prospects, for whom they paid £52 million, during the January transfer window.
Rogers, who joined in the summer for £117 million, has quickly begun to justify the investment. In just five Premier League matches, he has netted three goals and provided one assist. Furthermore, he showcased his creativity with a hat-trick of assists in a rout against Leeds in the League Cup.
Rogers' outstanding form, working seamlessly with Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, has all but sidelined Gittens. The 22-year-old winger has seen his game time drastically reduced this season, making only two appearances in the League Cup.
Gittens' loan move to Italian side Roma fell through at the end of the summer transfer window, as Chelsea blocked the deal at the last minute, insisting they would only consider a full sale for the player.
The winger's debut season in London was marred by injuries and inconsistent performances. Now, with manager Xabi Alonso struggling to find a tactical role for him, January may see Gittens' exit becoming an increasingly likely resolution to the situation.
