The loan of Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho to Aston Villa has not gone as planned; however, the agreement between the clubs does not contain a clause for an automatic or unilateral return of the player in the winter transfer window. This has been reported by Telegraph Sport.
Neither the Birmingham nor the London club has the right to terminate the Argentine's loan unilaterally in January.
So far, Garnacho has yet to make a start for Aston Villa. In the last three matches, he hasn't even been brought on as a substitute. In a recent EFL Cup game, manager Unai Emery opted to give youngsters from the academy a chance to impress, leaving Garnacho firmly on the bench.
Early termination of the loan would only be possible with mutual consent from both clubs. Chelsea are unlikely to pursue this option unless another team can guarantee Garnacho consistent playing time. Meanwhile, clubs from Spain are closely monitoring the situation surrounding the winger.
This scenario echoes the situation from last year when Harvey Elliott was loaned to Aston Villa and Liverpool refused to recall him prematurely. Before his summer move to Birmingham, Garnacho also attracted interest from Italian side Roma.
