Newcastle and Barcelona are monitoring the progress of Djurgarden's attacking midfielder Bo Hegland. The 22-year-old Norwegian is enjoying a brilliant season in Sweden, notching eight goals and providing 15 assists across 22 league appearances.
His latest assist came in a 2-0 victory against GAIS, which saw him match the Allsvenskan record for assists in a single season.
Newcastle's interest has extended beyond merely observing statistics. Representatives from the English club were present at Djurgarden’s match against Mjallby on August 31, which ended in a 4-0 win. Hegland contributed with two assists in that match. Following this, scouts from Barcelona were also spotted watching him from the stands.
The Norwegian himself has mentioned that he hasn't received any concrete offers yet:
It’s all very far from anything specific at the moment; it’s nice to read about it, but I need to focus on what I can influence. I enjoy playing for Djurgarden; I’m pretty happy here.
Hegland also acknowledged that the attention from Barcelona and other major clubs boosts his confidence:
It’s a huge compliment when clubs are watching you. It means you’re doing your job well, and I take it only as a great compliment.
Hegland is under contract with Djurgarden until December 2029, and he has received a call-up to the Norway U21 national team for the current international break.
