Netherlands head coach Xavi has opted not to include Jurriën Timber in the squad for the Nations League match against Germany. The Arsenal defender has just returned from a groin injury and is still working on regaining optimal form.
Timber sustained an ankle injury back in March and missed 52 days of action. He made his comeback on May 30 in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, but shortly after faced issues with his groin.
As a result of this latest injury, the 25-year-old defender missed the World Cup, pre-season preparations, and the start of the current season. After a 103-day layoff, Timber returned to the pitch in September and managed to play two matches under Mikel Arteta.
Despite his limited game time, new Netherlands boss Xavi called the defender up for the September Nations League fixtures.
However, ahead of the showdown with Germany, the Spanish tactician was required to trim his squad from 26 to 23 players. According to NU, along with Timber, Djivai Zechihel and Kenneth Taylor were also left out.
Timber's absence was anticipated, especially as he missed training sessions on Monday and Tuesday, although he was back training with the team on Wednesday.
The Netherlands have three more matches scheduled during this international break: two against Serbia and one against Greece. Timber still holds a chance to see some playing time in these upcoming games.
