Manchester United’s start to the 2026/27 Premier League season has been nothing short of disastrous. The team has managed to win only one of their first five league matches, the sole triumph being a convincing victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford. Following two draws and two defeats, the Red Devils find themselves in 12th place, already falling behind the top four.
However, under the stewardship of Michael Carrick, the team exhibits a paradoxical level of attacking activity. Despite their lacklustre results, they lead the league in three key attacking metrics:
- Shots: 113 attempts over five games, averaging more than 20 shots per match, the best record among all teams in the league;
- Accurate crosses: 132 successful deliveries from the flanks;
- Touches in the opponent's box: 182 touches, highlighting their regular advancement into dangerous areas.
The main issue remains their inability to finish off created chances. The Red Devils failed to score in two of their five games against the solid defences of Hull City and Manchester City.
Improving their finishing is crucial if they are to regain winning momentum in their upcoming clash against Tottenham after the international break.
