Former Chelsea forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has commented on rumours of Enzo Fernandez's move to Manchester City for over £120 million. He believes Reece James can temporarily fill Fernandez's role but insists the Blues will need to sign a new player.

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has shared his thoughts on the potential departure of midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine is reportedly on the radar of Manchester City, and Chelsea is believed to be holding out for a hefty fee exceeding £120 million.

Hasselbaink argues that the Blues can cope with Fernandez's departure by filling the central midfield role with Reece James. However, he points out that the club will still need to dip into the transfer market due to the captain's ongoing injury issues.

"I think he is important for Chelsea, but they can replace him with Reece James. Still, I believe they will need to sign someone else, as James doesn’t play every match. They have Lavia, but he also picks up injuries quite often," noted Hasselbaink.

The ex-forward highlighted Fernandez's strengths—qualities that the London side will need to find a way to replace.

"Enzo always steps up in games. He’s a real man. At critical moments, he takes responsibility. When the team needs to fight, he’s there. When the pressure is on, he’s there. It’s these qualities they will need to find a replacement for," the expert summarised.
