Liverpool have set their sights on one of Mexico's most promising young players, Hilberto Mora. The 17-year-old midfielder is currently at Tijuana and has made contact with the player's representatives, but the Reds face tough competition from giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Mora has already made a name for himself on the international stage, becoming the youngest player to score for Mexico's senior team. This season, he has been impressive, notching five goals in seven club appearances.
Reports suggest that Liverpool's interest is genuine, and they've reached out directly in their pursuit of the talented midfielder. However, it's still early days and there's no word yet on a formal offer to Tijuana or any agreements between parties.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also highlighted Mora's rising profile, noting the increased attention from European clubs:
“Keep an eye on Hilberto Mora, the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Mexican national team. This lad is something special. At just 17 years old, born in October 2008, he's regarded as one of the best young talents among midfielders in the football industry.”
“He possesses immense quality and potential. Clubs from Spain, England, and beyond are all keeping tabs on him.”
Romano further reported that suitors are already beginning to gauge the conditions for a potential deal:
“In the near future, there will surely be discussions with his camp, as clubs are starting to lay the groundwork surrounding Hilberto Mora: they want to ascertain his price and the feasibility of bringing him to Europe.”
“There’s movement around Hilberto Mora. In Mexico, they see him as the next big star, making it a situation to watch closely.”
However, Liverpool do face a significant hurdle. According to Football Insider, Mora himself currently favours a move to Spain over a switch to Anfield. This means the Merseysiders must not only compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona for the transfer but also work hard to persuade the player to choose England.
Mora is likely to become the most expensive sale in the history of the Mexican league, with the current record being set at around £15 million for Maxi Araujo when he moved to Sporting in 2024.
Later this October, Mora will turn 18, allowing him to make a move to a European club in the upcoming January transfer window.
