Italian manager Antonio Conte is open to the idea of becoming the head coach at Manchester United and has shown a keen interest in leading the iconic club. According to esteemed Italian football expert Marco Messina, there's no one better in the global game right now capable of turning the fortunes of the Red Devils around.
Conte's name tops the shortlist for Manchester United's hierarchy as pressure mounts on Michael Carrick. The owners see the 57-year-old as a proven winner who can fundamentally change the mentality of the first team. The Italian boasts an impressive managerial record, with league titles to his name from his time at Chelsea, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Napoli. Alongside Conte, Brighton's Fabian Hürzeler, Eddie Howe, and Julian Nagelsmann, both currently without clubs, have also been mentioned as potential candidates.
Conte wants to be at Manchester United. This union has been on the cards for a while. There isn't a coach out there with better chances of making them win immediately, — stated Messina.
Meanwhile, noted insider Fabrizio Romano highlights that the coming weeks are pivotal for Michael Carrick to convince the club's hierarchy of his capabilities. Romano reports that the bosses retain a baseline confidence in the Englishman, sensing the players continue to rally behind the manager. However, his position is under threat following a dismal run of results in the last seven matches, which have yielded three defeats, two draws, and just two victories against modest sides Ipswich and Sabah. The upcoming home match against Tottenham could be make-or-break for Carrick.
In a revealing interview with The Athletic, Conte hinted at his readiness to take on the Premier League challenge and detailed his vision for a dream club:
In England, they’re using bazookas right now, while the rest of Europe is still on pistols. But spending has to be done wisely. That's why having a clear strategy and vision is so crucial: you might have massive amounts of money, but managing it well is essential.
If you come to a club with a rich history of trophies, championships, and great victories, the only way to honour that legacy is through ambition — bringing the team back to that level if they're not there right now. I understand that only one team can win every year, but I feel compelled to ignite that spark within the hearts of fans, players, and directors — the hope that makes you say, 'Blimey, we can win!'
There are plenty of clubs that have somewhat lost touch with their glorious histories. I would love to join one of these clubs, to dust off that history and make it shine again, where there’s pressure, and everyone understands you’re not just there to participate, but to win.
