Chelsea are set to lower their asking price of £75 million for right-back Malo Gusto, allowing Liverpool to re-enter serious negotiations for the French player's transfer in 2027.

Chelsea are reportedly willing to review their financial demands concerning 23-year-old right-back Malo Gusto, potentially opening the door for Liverpool to secure his signature in 2027. The Reds made a desperate attempt to loan the French international at the end of the last transfer window, but Chelsea stood firm, demanding a hefty £75 million and refusing any rental deal without a compulsory buy clause.

In recent years, Liverpool's defence has undergone a significant overhaul, with the departures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson. Their replacements include Jeremy Frimpong, Giovanni Leao, Jeremy Jacquet, Milos Kerkhez, and Ronald Araujo, who is currently on loan. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has decided to utilise the Uruguayan on the right flank, where he has remarkably secured three consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League. Nonetheless, the need for a world-class player in that position remains evident.

The Reds faced a firm stance from Chelsea's hierarchy during the deadline. According to insider Fabrice Hawkins from RMC Sport, Liverpool did not possess the financial resources for the full £75 million purchase. Manchester City also deemed the asking price excessive last summer. However, journalist Dean Jones revealed to Flashscore that the situation has dramatically changed. Chelsea have recognised the unfeasibility of their previous demands and are preparing to lower their price significantly.

Gusto himself is concerned about his standing at both club and international levels. Under Xabi Alonso's management, he has lost his assured starting spot, with Pedro Neto frequently preferred on the right flank. Additionally, the signing of Marko Palese for £47 million and the long-term deal for Reece James have all but shut the door on Gusto becoming a consistent starter. At Liverpool, the 23-year-old would likely receive regular playing time and would represent a considerable upgrade over Conor Bradley.

Although Araujo's loan extends until the end of the season and includes a buy option set at €55 million, he will turn 28 by summer, making the deal less appealing as a long-term investment. Given the struggles of Jeremy Frimpong, who has been linked with Barcelona, the prospect of signing Gusto for a more reasonable fee appears to be an indispensable priority for Liverpool.
