15-Second Brief
Newcastle have entered the race for Tyler Morton and view the Lyon midfielder as a target for summer 2027. Nottingham Forest also maintain interest in the 23-year-old, while the French club are reluctant to let him go in January.

Newcastle are set to contest with Nottingham Forest for the services of Lyon midfielder Tyler Morton. The 23-year-old Englishman has been making waves in France and is regarded as a key target for midfield reinforcements in the summer of 2027.

Nottingham Forest have had their eye on Morton for some time, having attempted to sign him back in 2025 when he was still with Liverpool, but negotiations fell through.

Now, Newcastle are ready to enter the fray. Following the departures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, head coach Matthias Jaissle has reshuffled his midfield considerably but continues to seek further options.

Morton is particularly appealing to Newcastle due to his style of play. The Englishman is adept on the ball and could bring much-needed control to the team's central areas.

However, a deal in January seems highly unlikely, as Lyon are not willing to entertain offers for Morton this winter and intend to retain the midfielder at least until the end of the season.

The French club acquired him from Liverpool for around €15 million ahead of the 2025/26 season. Now, Lyon could demand nearly double that figure for the player.

If Morton continues on his current trajectory, the battle for his signature next summer could turn into one of the more noteworthy transfer sagas in the Premier League.
