RB Leipzig's left-back David Raum has given his consent to join Manchester United as a free agent in the summer of 2027. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the interest of top clubs in the 28-year-old captain of the German side.

RB Leipzig's left-back David Raum, who is set to become a free agent, has reportedly given the green light for a move to Manchester United. Renowned insider Fabrizio Romano has identified the 28-year-old German as a player to keep an eye on as developments unfold.

The Manchester club underwent a significant overhaul of their attacking line-up in 2025, bringing in three new forwards. After focusing on bolstering their midfield last summer, United's hierarchy has now set its sights on modernising the defence by 2027. A left-back remains a priority in the transfer market. Last summer, the Red Devils failed in their attempts to secure Lewis Hall, with Newcastle firmly refusing to engage in negotiations, leading to the England international signing a new, improved contract at St James’ Park.

As a result, the search for a competitor to Luke Shaw continues. TEAMtalk's insider Fraser Fletcher has reported that United have turned their attention to RB Leipzig captain David Raum, who has expressed his willingness to join the club in 2027. Should the United hierarchy choose to expedite matters and finalise the transfer in January, the compensation fee could be around £30 million. However, the more likely scenario appears to be a free transfer at the end of the season, as the player's contract expires in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano also shared his insights on the prospects of the German defender during a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast:

Among those players to really watch as we head into summer 2027, I’d highlight David Raum. Several top clubs in Europe are searching for quality left-backs. Raum brings solid international experience and has been performing admirably for RB Leipzig. He’s a very reliable left-back, so he’s definitely one to keep an eye on. There have been links to Manchester United. Let’s see how things evolve as they continue their pursuit for a player in this position. Movement around David Raum is to be expected.

Raum was appointed captain of RB Leipzig in the summer of 2025 and has recorded 28 assists across all competitions over the past three seasons. Additionally, he has earned 40 caps for the German national team since making his debut in 2021. Manchester United's strategic plan includes extending Luke Shaw's contract while simultaneously signing a strong left-back who can compete with the veteran in the short term and eventually replace him in the future.
