Tottenham continue to struggle at the start of the season. In their fifth Premier League match, Roberto De Zerbi's side lost 2-3 to Aston Villa at home.
Aston Villa took the lead in the first half thanks to Johan Manzambi's goal in the 45+4 minute.
After the break, Villa continued to punish the hosts. Nicolas Jackson doubled the visitors' advantage in the 67th minute, and Emiliano Buendia made it 3-0 in the 79th minute.
Tottenham managed to respond late in the game: Conor Gallagher pulled one back in the 86th minute, reducing the deficit to two goals, but the Londoners could not save the match.
In the dying moments, Jan-Paul van Hecke narrowed the gap to one goal in the 90+8 minute with an assist from James Maddison, but it was too little, too late.
Tottenham remain winless
After five matches, Tottenham have only 2 points and now sit in the 18th position in the table. The team has yet to secure a win in the league, and their current goal difference reflects a troubling start.
For Aston Villa, this victory marks their first in the 2026/27 season. Before the match, they were languishing near the bottom of the table, while Tottenham entered the fixture on the back of several disappointing results.
This defeat increases the pressure on De Zerbi's side, who now find themselves in the relegation zone.
