Richarlison has rejected a permanent move to Vasco da Gama, despite the Brazilian club reaching an agreement with Tottenham. This information was disclosed by Vasco's sporting director, Admar Lopes.
Lopes indicated that the club had made an official proposal to acquire the 29-year-old forward and had attempted to persuade him to return to Brazil right up until the transfer window closed.
According to Lopes:
We tried everything. We genuinely made an offer for a full transfer, but the player didn't agree to the terms.
We kept trying until the last day, doing all we could to convince him, but he refused and said now is not the right time to return to Brazil.
This summer, Richarlison was keen to leave Tottenham, with speculation linking him back to Everton. A potential move to Trabzonspor also fell through as the window closed. Ultimately, the Brazilian decided to stay in London.
However, the forward has seemingly fallen out of favour with Roberto De Zerbi, especially after expressing his desire to exit the club during pre-season. Richarlison was not included in Tottenham's 25-man Premier League squad.
De Zerbi further clarified that he does not intend to use the striker in cup competitions:
Richarlison will not play, even if available. Not even in the League Cup – no.
This leaves Richarlison at Tottenham at least until the winter transfer window, but currently, he appears not to be part of De Zerbi's plans.
