Monaco's director Tiago Scuro has revealed the club's transfer plans for January, confirming that they are looking to offload Folarin Balogun. The situation surrounding midfielder Lamine Kamara could depend directly on Balogun's future.
During the summer, Balogun was on the verge of a move to Everton, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute. This led Monaco to reconsider a potential sale of Kamara to Chelsea.
Scuro spoke to RMC Sport:
The initial plan is to find a solution for Balogun. If we succeed, Monaco will have the opportunity to keep Lamine and Golovin until the end of the season.
This is the ideal scenario, but we can't control the decisions of others and what will happen in the winter.
Thus, selling Balogun would allow Monaco to retain Kamara through January. However, if the club fails once again to find a buyer for the American forward, Kamara's situation could change significantly.
Chelsea attempted to sign Kamara on the final day of the summer transfer window, with Liverpool also reported to have shown interest. According to talkSPORT, the Merseysiders previously held preliminary talks regarding a possible transfer for the midfielder.
For Chelsea, strengthening their midfield is especially crucial following Enzo Fernandez's move to Manchester City and the injury to Moises Caicedo. In their disappointing 0-3 defeat to Brentford, Xabi Alonso opted for Jordan Henderson and Valentin Barco in the centre of the park.
