City Football Group stepped in regarding Sverre Nypan last summer, when the Manchester City midfielder was on the verge of a move to the Netherlands. Ultimately, the 19-year-old Norwegian was loaned to Belgian side Lommel, also part of the club's network.
Interest in Nypan was primarily shown by Heerenveen and Cambuur. Heerenveen's director, Johan Hansma, confirmed that the club had discussions with the player:
We spoke with him, just as you might expect, although I think he was in touch with many clubs. City Football Group has an enormous pool of players that can perform not only in Manchester but also at other teams. Among them, there are some very interesting players available for loan. Sverre Nypan was one of them.
Cambuur's director, Lars Lamboy, noted that at one point Nypan seemed to be leaning towards a move to Heerenveen:
In the end, we heard that he was likely to choose Heerenveen. Partly because many Scandinavian players have performed well there.
However, City Football Group changed the narrative, and the Norwegian found himself at Lommel.
Manchester City initially signed Nypan from Rosenborg in 2025 for €15 million, but he has yet to make his debut for the first team. Last season, the midfielder spent time on loan at Middlesbrough.
