Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana commented on the defeat to Tottenham (1:2) in a friendly match.
The game took place in Sydney. Estevao Willian scored for the Blues, but Richarlison snatched victory for his team in injury time, despite Tottenham playing with a man down.
Fofana spent around 70 minutes on the pitch and was dissatisfied with the final result.
“I thought we played well, but we definitely needed to kill the intrigue in the game,” remarked the Frenchman.
The defender believes that the team should have acted differently after the opponent's player was sent off.
“When they got the red card, that was when we needed to be more mature in our game and control the match,” noted Fofana.
Nevertheless, the player is confident that this bitter experience will benefit the team.
“However, we will learn from this, and that’s what pre-season is for. We will analyse the game, see where we can improve, and carry that into the next match,” said the footballer.
Fofana emphasised that the Londoners’ mindset is always aimed at winning.
“Pre-season or not, we want to win. We are disappointed with the loss, of course, but that’s normal. That’s the essence of pre-season, and it’s about preparing for the new season,” concluded the Chelsea player.
