Arsenal and Newcastle officials have agreed to sell midfielder Bruno Guimarães for £80 million. In light of this, the Magpies, under new head coach Matthias Jaissle, have begun an active search for options to strengthen their midfield.
The primary target for the English club is 20-year-old Danish midfielder Victor Froholdt from Porto. Newcastle representatives have already reached out to the player's entourage to explore the terms of a potential transfer and assess the midfielder's willingness to move to the Premier League.
Challenges in the Froholdt deal
Despite the interest shown, the signing of the Dane to St James' Park may prove to be a challenging task.
Financial aspects: Porto intends to retain the midfielder for at least one more season and will only release him for the full release clause of €85 million (approximately £73 million).
Player's position: Froholdt has previously expressed a desire to continue his development in Portugal and focus on his performances for the Dragons.
Alternative option in the market
If negotiations for Froholdt reach a standstill, Newcastle are ready to shift their attention to Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams.
After Manchester United cooled their interest in the American, Newcastle have become the leading contender for the player. Adams already has experience playing in the Premier League, and his transfer fee is estimated at a more affordable £35–40 million.
