Liverpool have truly triumphed in the competitive race for young goalkeeper Lukka Bruyns, with neither Arsenal nor Real Madrid able to match their appeal. The Merseyside club have struck a deal worth £30 million for the 18-year-old from Genk, with an official switch to Anfield set for next summer.
While earlier reports suggested that Bayern Munich were in the hunt for the Belgian talent, that has since been firmly dismissed. Christian Falk, head of football at BILD, has confirmed that Bayern never showed interest in Bruyns:
It’s not true that Bayern were interested in Lukka Bruyns. He is an interesting player, but Bayern already have promising talent in that position. The club simply didn’t consider Bruyns.
However, TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent Graham Bailey has reported that Liverpool’s genuine competition came from Arsenal and Real Madrid, with both clubs having held talks regarding the highly-rated keeper.
Bailey explained:
As far as I know, both Arsenal and Real Madrid were in discussions about Bruyns, but Liverpool managed to convince him to join their project. A clear pathway to the first team was a key factor in the fight for his signature.
Bruyns is viewed as a potential future successor to Alisson. The Belgian could find himself as the number one at Liverpool by 2027, when Alisson’s current contract comes to an end.
