Former QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt has shed light on the circumstances surrounding his botched move to Manchester United and his subsequent snub of Arsenal.
In 2011, Sir Alex Ferguson made the trip to watch Taarabt in a Championship clash against Hull City, but the Moroccan’s antics during the game caused a stir. A public spat with his teammate Sean Derry led Ferguson to question Taarabt's character, resulting in his name being swiftly crossed off the list of potential signings.
Adding to the intrigue, Arsenal's Arsene Wenger was keen on bringing Taarabt to the Emirates and promised him Champions League football. However, Taarabt made the decision to turn down the offer, citing concerns over the proposed wages and the uncertainty of a regular spot in the starting XI.
Taarabt also admitted that he often indulged in nights out just before matches, and while QPR's then-manager Neil Warnock overlooked these late-night escapades due to Taarabt's significant impact on the team's performance, the midfielder’s off-field behaviour may have contributed to his missed opportunities.
