Former defender Glen Johnson suggested Chelsea sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona instead of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. Bournemouth previously rejected a £64 million offer for the 23-year-old Englishman.

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has urged the London club to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. He believes De Jong is a better option for strengthening the midfield compared to Alex Scott from Bournemouth.

If Frenkie de Jong is fit, he’s an excellent player. God knows how much he would cost, but if he's in shape, I think he would be a great signing.

It was previously reported that Bournemouth rejected a £64 million offer from Chelsea for Scott. The club is now valuing the 23-year-old player at approximately £100 million. England international Scott is also of significant interest to Liverpool.

Johnson praised Scott's progress, but he thinks the young Englishman needs more time to transition to a top club.

We don’t know yet, but he has definitely shown glimpses of talent and started the season very well, and obviously getting into the England squad will only add to his confidence. I think I need to see a little more, but he is definitely on the right path to playing for one of the best teams.
