Everton have the opportunity to sign Mauro Icardi for free following disappointing attempts to secure a striker in the dying days of the transfer window. However, manager David Moyes remains unconvinced that the 33-year-old Argentinian is the right match for his team.
According to Football Insider, Icardi has been proposed to Everton as a free agent. The forward has been without a club since leaving Galatasaray in July, allowing the Merseysiders to potentially secure a deal even after the transfer window has closed.
The need to bolster their attack arose after Everton were unable to complete the signing of Folarin Balogun, while Betu and Iliman Ndiaye have already departed the club.
Moyes is particularly concerned about Icardi's current physical condition and how quickly the Argentinian could adapt to the demanding nature of the Premier League. The manager is reluctant to sign a forward merely for the sake of adding numbers and is willing to wait for the January window if a suitable option does not present itself.
Interest in Icardi has also been shown by Lazio and Parma.
