The French prosecutor has called for sentences of four to ten years for three individuals accused of the brutal robbery of Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The incident occurred in Paris in July 2023 when the Italian was representing PSG.
Donnarumma and his pregnant fiancée, Alessia Elefante, were tied up and threatened after four masked men broke into their ninth-floor apartment on Avenue Montaigne.
Testimony presented in court revealed that the traumatic events of that night led to Elefante suffering a miscarriage.
A total of seven people are alleged to have been involved in the crime, with some still unidentified. The assailants managed to steal cash, jewellery, watches, and designer bags worth nearly €1 million in mere minutes.
The harshest sentence sought by the prosecution is ten years for 21-year-old Ilyas Herbush, nicknamed Ganito, who gained notoriety after escaping from a prison in Villepinte in March.
The prosecution is requesting nine years for 22-year-old Hyan M, known as Kiki, and six years for Mokhtar D. Authorities suspect that Herbush and Hyan may have orchestrated the robbery while incarcerated.
Both alleged masterminds deny any involvement despite evidence found on their phones while in prison.
Mokhtar D. is the only accused thought to have been at the scene of the crime; he claims he was merely acting as a lookout from the roof of a building across from Donnarumma's apartment.
Another defendant, Mokhtar D’s childhood friend accused of feeding information to the criminals, tragically took his own life in prison.
During the closing arguments, the prosecutor highlighted a series of similar robberies in the prestigious Avenue Montaigne area, stating that from 2022 to 2025, seven high-profile individuals had fallen victim to such incidents. The prosecution described these burglaries as highly lucrative and extremely violent.
On the second and final day of the proceedings, Herbush apologised to the police officers he had insulted the day prior, as well as to the court.
Donnarumma departed PSG to join Manchester City in 2025.
