The 21-year-old Serbian holding midfielder of Milan's Inter, Aleksandar Stankovic, has caught the eye of top Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window.
The young midfielder featured prominently on the transfer wish lists of Manchester United and Tottenham. Meanwhile, Liverpool expressed serious interest in the player, as the Merseysiders sought to gather information about Stankovic’s availability during their negotiations with the Italian giants over midfielder Curtis Jones.
However, a move to England never materialised — Stankovic remained in Milan after returning from a loan spell at Belgian side Brugge. Inter activated a special buyback clause laid out in the agreement with the Belgian outfit.
Initially, Inter's hierarchy contemplated sending the Serbian talent out on yet another loan deal with an obligatory buy option. This situation dramatically changed with the appointment of new head coach Cristian Chivu. The Romanian manager was highly impressed by Stankovic’s fitness and tactical maturity shown during pre-season training, and he requested that the midfielder stay with the first-team squad.
Now, Stankovic will continue his development at the San Siro, receiving a full opportunity to establish himself within the ranks of the Milan club.
