Liverpool's head coach Andoni Iraola has warned his players of a serious test ahead. The Merseysiders are set to face Newcastle away from home in the opening round of the Premier League on Sunday.
Newcastle has recently undergone a managerial change, but Iraola is confident that the Magpies will retain the qualities that made them a formidable opponent last season. Chief among these are their pace and ability to exploit space.
“Yes, they have changed their coach, but they want to maintain the strength of Newcastle. If you look at their expected goals, they were very effective at attacking space. They have one of the fastest attacking lines, so they will still be very good in transition, just like last year. I love the atmosphere at St James' Park, so we must be ready for a powerful start from our opponents and match their level of play. I hope we can impose our football and control the game as much as needed,” said Iraola.
