English side Sunderland have opened negotiations with representatives of 25-year-old right winger Geny Catamo from Lisbon's Sporting.

According to A Bola, the main hurdle in completing the transfer is the financial demands from the Portuguese club.
Buyout clause: Catamo's contract, which runs until 2028, features a fixed buyout sum of €60 million.
Price rise: While the player's valuation hovered around €30 million in the spring, the Green and Whites are unwilling to offer any discounts, insisting on the full amount of the clause.
Squad retention: Sporting are already close to selling defender Ousmane Diamande to Nottingham Forest and are reluctant to lose another key player in the same transfer window, hence the steep asking price.

A €60 million fee for a player who isn’t a guaranteed starter seems excessive for Sunderland's budget.
