17-year-old Floyd Samba made a stunning debut for Manchester City, scoring twice in the League Cup against Burnley.
His family were there to support him from the stands, with his older brother Tai and mother Teresa proudly wearing shirts emblazoned with his name.
Reflecting on his journey, Samba acknowledged the competitive spirit amongst his brothers, which has played a key role in their development.
The most important thing is to support each other during tough times, and when one of us succeeds, to take pride and congratulate them. That has always been the case.
He expressed gratitude for the guidance of his father, former professional footballer Christopher Samba, who has helped shape both their game on the pitch and their characters off it.
Having three brothers at Manchester City… I think my dad has done an amazing job helping us as players and as individuals, shaping our characters and mentalities. It has benefited us all.
Samba also reminisced about the fiery football battles he had with his siblings during childhood.
We used to get so angry! We played constantly in the garden. I still play with Emerson out there sometimes when I find the time. The competition is fierce. Emerson is aggressive and very tall. He's only 12, but he’s already shoulder height on me, so he’s a tough opponent, a real defender.
The young star also commended his mother for her unwavering support.
It’s incredibly inspiring. And of course, I can't forget my mum, because she did everything for us, taking us to training every day. She sacrificed everything for us three and continues to do the same for Emerson. She’s amazing. I’m happy every day to give her reasons to be proud.
This summer, Samba trained with the first team under Enzo Maresca, keen to make a positive impression.
For him and the coaching staff, it was all new. We needed to make a good first impression. I think I did that. I didn’t feel out of place; I felt part of the team. It was fantastic.
Looking ahead, Samba is set to join the Germany U19 squad, despite having previously represented England's youth teams. He is also eligible to play for France and Congo.
We’ll see what the future holds. I think an opportunity will arise somewhere, so I just need to wait.
Following his impressive debut, his father offered him simple yet impactful advice.
This is just the beginning. Now I need to keep pushing forward in the same way.
