Everton approach their match against Chelsea unbeaten this season. Chelsea have only won one of their last nine away matches to the Toffees and failed to score in their last three meetings. This statistic surprised Gabriel Agbonlahor before the game.

Chelsea gear up for a testing away fixture against Everton, who have been unbeaten in the Premier League this season. To add to the pressure, Chelsea's record at Goodison Park in recent years is nothing to be proud of.

David Moyes' side currently sits fifth in the table after six matches, having accrued ten points. Their last outing ended in a 2-2 draw with Hull City, a match where they fought back and even took the lead before conceding a late equaliser from Mohamed Bellumi.

Chelsea, managed by Xabi Alonso, are on the same points but find themselves behind Everton on goal difference.

Chelsea's woes against Everton continue

Before the clash, journalist Sam Matterface highlighted Chelsea's concerning record in away games against the Toffees.

Out of their last nine visits to Merseyside, Chelsea have managed just one win, along with two draws and an alarming six defeats. Even more concerning is the fact that in seven of those matches, Chelsea failed to score, including their last three visits.

On talkSPORT, Matterface stated:

Chelsea have an absolutely dreadful record at this ground. They have serious issues with this opponent, having won only once in the last nine away league matches.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor expressed his surprise at this statistic:

Wow! Really?

He then noted the current Everton squad's strength, mentioning players like Jack Grealish, Brennan Johnson, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Hayden Hackney, and James Garner as assets for Moyes.

Defensive frailties plague Chelsea

Despite boasting an attacking line including Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro, and Morgan Rogers, Alonso’s team has major concerns at the back.

Chelsea have shipped goals in each of their last 22 Premier League matches—only once have they had a worse run, with a streak of 31 games without a clean sheet between November 1960 and August 1961.

For Everton, this match holds significant importance as they aim to secure back-to-back league victories over Chelsea for the first time since 2019.

That year, the Toffees achieved the feat under the management of Marco Silva and Duncan Ferguson.

Now, Moyes looks to capitalise on home support at Hilly Dickinson Stadium and extend his team’s unbeaten run.

For Xabi Alonso, this presents yet another opportunity to demonstrate that Chelsea is not only capable of attacking flair but can also stand firm against teams that have historically posed problems.
