Manchester United have set their sights on Troy Parrott, the striker currently plying his trade at Real Betis, as they look to bolster their attacking options this January.
Under the management of Michael Carrick, the Reds have struggled to find their form in the Premier League, managing just six points from their opening six matches. Given their defensive vulnerabilities and attacking woes, the club is keen to add depth to their forward line alongside the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Joshua Zirkzee, and Matheus Cunha, who has frequently been deployed as a central striker.
According to reports from Fichajes, United scouts have been keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old Irish international's performances in La Liga and on the European stage. Parrott's ability to link play effectively, combined with his physicality and composure in front of goal, has caught the attention of the Manchester hierarchy. Notably, he enjoyed a stellar international break, netting four goals in as many matches for the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League.
However, securing his signature won't be straightforward. Real Betis are well-guarded against swift bids, with a hefty release clause of €80 million included in the forward's contract, which the Spanish club will point to for any interested parties.
Former Irish international Ray Houghton has praised Parrott's progress after overcoming challenges since leaving Tottenham and enjoying a successful stint in the Netherlands:
This was an outstanding goal from a player who is in tremendous form. I can't help but admire him as a footballer. He faced a tough path at Tottenham, with loans where the club didn’t really know what to do with him. But he went to the Netherlands, rebooted his career, bided his time with the national team, and is now performing at the senior level. Many Premier League clubs are probably kicking themselves watching his success.
