In a post-match interview, Manchester City manager Enzo Mareska expressed his delight following a hard-fought 3-2 win against Ipswich.
The City boss was satisfied with his team's overall control during the match, yet admitted the closing stages were a bit nerve-racking.
“I’m very pleased. We controlled the game for 95 minutes, creating chances and scoring. At the end, it got a little tense, but overall, everything is good,” Mareska stated.
City took the lead through Phil Foden, followed by a brace from Erling Haaland. Ipswich responded with goals from Daizen Maeda and Zian Fleming from the spot but couldn't secure a comeback.
Mariska praises Phil Foden
The Italian tactician took a moment to shower praise on Foden, who netted the opening goal for City and received his manager's unwavering support.
“I’m really happy for Phil. From day one, I've recognised how important he is for us. He’s a player of the highest level. He needs to maintain a positive mindset and confidence—then he will definitely help the team,” Mareska noted.
Praise for Ayub Boadi
Mariska also commended the performance of young Ayub Boadi, highlighting his impact both with and without the ball.
“Not bad, right? Very good, very good. He was strong on the ball and also off it. He’s still very young and needs to improve some aspects of his game, but he’s moving in the right direction,” the coach remarked.
Concerns over injuries to Haaland and Semenyo
The manager expressed hope that both Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo avoided serious injuries, as both players encountered issues post-match.
“I hope they're all right. They’re very important players for us. Losing two of your best players would be tough for any team. We’ll see what’s happened and hope to find a solution,” the coach added.
