Enzo Mareska has suggested that Erling Haaland may be rested by Manchester City to ensure his fitness. The striker's impressive tally of 10 goals in nine matches this season comes after a demanding schedule with the national team. The manager aims to protect the forward's health ahead of key fixtures.

Enzo Mareska, the manager of Manchester City, has hinted at the possibility of resting Erling Haaland for upcoming matches. The Norwegian forward has been in sensational form, scoring ten goals in nine games this season, but Mareska believes it's crucial for him to take a break.

The 26-year-old striker had a packed summer, featuring for Norway in the World Cup before playing four matches during the recent international break. National team coach Stale Solbakken has previously voiced concerns over Haaland's fatigue.

Ahead of their clash against Ipswich, Mareska confirmed that squad rotation is very much on the agenda.

Mareska stated:

At some point, we’re likely going to have to give him a rest, provide him with a few days off.

This isn’t just about Erling. Elliot Anderson, Enzo Fernandez, Marc Guehi, Ruben Dias — all of them are playing regularly for both club and country. Eventually, they will need a break.

Despite Haaland's prolific scoring, with six league goals and a brace against PSG recently, the busy schedule has led the coaching staff to reassess their players' workloads.

Following the match with Ipswich, City will face AEK Athens in the Champions League.

Foden set to return, Buaddi impresses

Mareska also indicated that Phil Foden is training well following his suspension for a red card in the Manchester United match.

The manager remarked:

He’s training really well and is very positive. We have a lot of matches ahead, so we’ll see if he’ll start. There’s no doubt he can help us.

Particular praise was reserved for 19-year-old Ayub Buaddi, who shone after coming on against PSG.

Mareska noted:

Ayub is a fantastic player. When he steps onto the pitch, everyone around him raises their game.

Manchester City have won all six of their opening Premier League matches and sit at the top of the table. A victory against Ipswich would temporarily extend their lead over Arsenal to six points.

Nonetheless, Mareska has made it clear that he is prepared to sacrifice the participation of his leading goalscorer in certain matches if it means preserving his long-term fitness.
