Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that he has had no contact with his former mentor Pep Guardiola since the ruling by an independent panel found the club guilty of more than a hundred financial rule breaches. The Spanish coach is set for an emotional return to the Etihad next week, leading PSG in the Champions League.
The Italian manager emphasised that communication with his predecessor ceased right after the derby:
I last spoke to Pep after the Manchester United game, but I know he will be coming. It’s always a great pleasure. After ten years here, he can come back whenever he likes — it’s not just about an official match or training. I think it will be a wonderful moment for him and our fans.
Guardiola, who managed the team for most of the time under scrutiny, has previously voiced his unwavering loyalty to the club, promising to stay with the Citizens even in the event of a potential relegation to the Championship.
Looking ahead, Maresca's side face a challenging trip to Anfield against Liverpool next Sunday, before welcoming the Parisians for a long-awaited reunion with their club legend at home.
