Alan Shearer predicted a high-scoring draw between Manchester United and Tottenham, warning Michael Carrick of the intense pressure that awaits at Old Trafford in case of a slip-up.

Expert Alan Shearer has shared his expectations for the upcoming clash between Manchester United and Tottenham at Old Trafford. The legendary striker has warned United's head coach, Michael Carrick, that any slip-up in Saturday's match will create immense pressure from both fans and the media.

Having secured a permanent contract last summer following a successful return to the Champions League, Carrick has recently faced stiff criticism. The Red Devils are on a poor run, failing to win in three consecutive Premier League matches: draws against Fulham and Everton, followed by a defeat in the Manchester derby to City. The situation worsened with a League Cup exit to Brighton, where United squandered a two-goal lead, losing 3-2.

Saturday’s game presents a perfect opportunity for redemption as Tottenham, led by Roberto De Zerbi, visit Old Trafford. The Lilywhites sit bottom of the Premier League table, having managed just two points from five matches. Astonishingly, they scored their only goals in the last round, even in their 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa.

However, Shearer believes that United's status as favourites elevates the stakes even further for Carrick and his staff:

Can you imagine the uproar at Old Trafford if United were to lose on Saturday? He did a magnificent job last season restoring the club’s place in the Champions League and settling the atmosphere within the squad. However, the hierarchy chose to continue with him but failed to back him significantly in the transfer market over the summer. Now, envision the reaction from the stands after three weeks of disappointment, especially if they get bested by a Tottenham side that hasn't tasted victory in this league.

Shearer also highlighted the tough schedule facing United, who have a European clash against Atletico Madrid on the horizon:

On Tuesday night they face Atletico. They have two massive matches ahead where it’s vital for them to secure results. Whether they have the resources to do so remains to be seen, but Saturday's game is crucial for both clubs. It should not be underestimated. I think the match will end in a high-scoring draw—either 1-1 or 2-2. For the guests, such a result would be far more palatable than for the hosts.
