Viktor Djoekersh has acknowledged his desire for more playing time at Arsenal, but has made it clear that he was never on the verge of departing the club over the summer.
The Swedish forward found himself at the centre of transfer speculation following his debut season in North London. Djoekersh joined from Sporting last summer and made an impressive mark, scoring 21 goals across all competitions, including 14 in the Premier League.
Despite a stellar first season, the recent transfer window saw reports linking him to a potential exit from the Gunners.
There were discussions around a possible swap deal involving Djoekersh and Atletico's forward Julian Alvarez, as well as mentions of a move to Barcelona just before the window closed.
Ultimately, none of these scenarios materialised. Djoekersh remained at Arsenal and has now shed light on the situation himself.
In an interview with Swedish outlet SVT Sport, the striker admitted to being aware of the swirling rumours but insisted that his focus had always been on the Gunners.
“Of course, there were a lot of speculations. But I had a complete pre-season, everything went well. I was fully focused on Arsenal.”
Djoekersh also emphasised that he never considered leaving as a real option:
“For me, staying was a given. I am very happy at the club.”
