Real Madrid have clarified their stance regarding the potential sale of midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni to Liverpool. The Reds' interest in the Frenchman has reignited following Julian Ward's return to the club as sporting director.
According to journalist Pete O'Rourke from Football Insider, Ward, who replaced Richard Hughes, is keen to make Tchouameni his first signing after returning. The sporting director already has a list of targets to strengthen Liverpool's squad ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.
Tchouameni has been on Liverpool's radar since 2022, when Ward attempted to sign him from Monaco. At that time, the Merseysiders made an official offer, but the midfielder opted for a move to Santiago Bernabeu after attracting interest from the Madrid club.
Since then, Tchouameni has established himself as one of the top defensive midfielders in the world, filling a problematic position for Liverpool, who have shown mixed results at the start of the season. It was hoped that the Frenchman could help address these issues.
However, Football Insider reports that Aurelien Tchouameni is unlikely to be the solution for Liverpool. To persuade Real to part with the 26-year-old, the Reds would need to fork out an astronomical fee. Negotiations are complicated further by the fact that the midfielder recently signed a new contract with the Madrid side that runs until 2031, making any potential transfer in the near future extremely challenging.
