Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Tottenham have initiated official and 'very concrete' discussions with Liverpool regarding the potential transfer of 27-year-old winger Cody Gakpo.
The North London club has established direct contact with their Merseyside counterparts to deliberate on the financial aspects of a potential deal.
Despite reports circulating in Dutch media (Voetbal International) suggesting a preliminary agreement, insider Florian Plettenberg clarifies the current status:
“Tottenham are engaged in very concrete negotiations for Cody Gakpo and have already reached out to Liverpool. However, sources close to the player deny that any agreements have been reached at this moment. Nevertheless, a move to Spurs is a serious option for Gakpo.”
Tottenham's head coach has prioritised strengthening the attacking flanks, aiming to sign two wingers this window. Alongside Gakpo, they are also in talks for Savinho from Manchester City.
As for Liverpool, they are open to selling Gakpo for a fee starting from £70 million, but only contingent on successfully concluding their own transfers — primarily the acquisition of Bradley Barcola from PSG.
If Liverpool manages to secure the Frenchman, it could significantly boost the momentum for Gakpo's transfer to Tottenham.
