15-Second Brief
Liverpool are gearing up to sign two new wide attackers ahead of the transfer window deadline if Cody Gakpo's sale to Tottenham is successful. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that 17-year-old Rio Nguoma will definitely stay at the club regardless of the outcome.
According to insider Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are weighing up the possibility of bringing in two wide attackers in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
The potential double swoop has been catalysed by the possible departure of Cody Gakpo to Tottenham.
Under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham have made the 27-year-old Dutchman their top target:
- Personal terms: Essentially agreed, with no disputes between the player and the London club.
- Club negotiations: Both parties need to find a financial agreement. The Merseysiders are hoping to secure around £70 million for the winger.
Quote from Fabrizio Romano:
Liverpool could add two wingers to their squad if Cody Gakpo leaves for Tottenham. Tottenham are actively working on Gakpo right now. Gakpo is Club’s number one target, 100%. But they still need to find a financial compromise between the clubs.
If Gakpo is sold, Liverpool will reinvest the proceeds:
- Bradley Barcola (PSG): Remains the top priority. Liverpool already have a verbal agreement with the player and are in talks with the Parisians.
- Second winger: The club is also exploring options such as 18-year-old PSG talent Ibrahima Mbaye.
- Rio Nguoma's status: Romano has emphasised that 17-year-old academy product Rio Nguoma is an 'untouchable' part of Liverpool's current and future plans and will not leave the club under any circumstances this summer.
