World Cup champion Pedro Rodriguez has called time on his professional career at the age of 39. The Spanish forward concluded a two-decade journey that earned him 25 major trophies.
Pedro became a free agent following the end of his contract with Lazio in July. He was a vital member of the Spain team that lifted the World Cup in 2010, starting in the final against the Netherlands which ended in a famous victory for La Roja. He also contributed to Spain's success in the 2012 European Championships.
"I feel that the time has come. Time to take a step forward and begin a new chapter in my life. I leave with pride for having lived my dream and with gratitude for everyone who stood by me and helped make it a reality. Thank you, football, for making me so happy," Pedro stated.
He broke into Barcelona's first team in 2008 and quickly became an integral part of Pep Guardiola's side, winning an impressive 20 major trophies with the Catalan club.
Among the highlights of his career was scoring in the 2011 Champions League final against Manchester United, helping Barcelona secure a 3-1 victory.
In 2015, Pedro made the move to Chelsea, where he was part of the team that clinched the Premier League title in his second season at Stamford Bridge. He later spent a season at Roma before moving to Lazio, where he played for the final five years of his career.
Across his club career, Pedro made 794 appearances, netting 197 goals. For the Spanish national team, he earned 65 caps and scored 17 times.
In total, Pedro’s trophy haul includes the World Cup and European Championship with Spain, alongside numerous domestic and international titles earned with Barcelona and Chelsea.
