Liverpool have reportedly aimed high with a bid exceeding $50 million for 17-year-old Hilberto Mora, a promising midfielder from Tijuana. The player's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has opted to remain tight-lipped about the offer, and fans in Mexico are eagerly awaiting news on his future, expected around October 14.
This interest from the Merseysiders isn’t new, as summer reports indicated that both Manchester United and Arsenal were keeping a close eye on one of Mexican football’s top young talents. However, Liverpool appears to be the first to make a concrete move.
Journalist David Faitelson commented:
I have been informed in Tijuana that the club received a proposal from the English side—specifically Liverpool—through Mora’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta.
This is a historic sum—over $50 million for Mora, who will celebrate his 18th birthday next week.
Another Mexican journalist, Leon Lecanda, suggested that an announcement regarding the deal could come as soon as October 14.
Lecanda shared:
I can say that on October 14, there’s a strong likelihood of announcing a historic agreement with a major European club concerning Mora. This transfer fee would set a record for a player moving from the Mexican league to an overseas club.
While Lecanda refrained from naming the club, it remains uncertain if the deal is indeed with Liverpool.
Pimenta was asked directly about the proposed offer from Liverpool and the potential announcement on October 14. She neither confirmed nor denied the claims.
Pimenta responded:
Please understand that I do not comment on transfer rumours. I won’t be saying anything about a player's transfer. Thank you for your understanding.
Mora turns 18 on October 14, after which he would be eligible to make a move to England or another European country.
A product of Tijuana, Mora made his debut for the first team at just 15 years and 10 months, setting a record as the youngest player in the club's history. So far, he has scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 62 appearances, including five goals and one assist in just seven matches this season.
Mora has also earned caps for the Mexican national team, featuring in 13 matches, four of which were during the World Cup. If the reported figure is verified, his transfer would mark the record sale of a player from the Mexican league abroad.
