Enzo Marereka, the Manchester City manager, heaped praise on winger Antoine Semenyo after his impressive performance in a thrilling 5-3 win over Sunderland.
Semenyo opened his scoring account for the season with a brace either side of the break, and also provided an assist for Ryan Cherki, helping the Citizens maintain their three-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
The Italian tactician acknowledged that Semenyo's contributions stretched well beyond just goals:
He played a very important role, but it’s not just about the two goals. He’s been good in matches where he hasn’t scored. In the away game against Crystal Palace, he provided an assist for Erling Haaland, and the same happened at home against Coventry. Football isn’t just about scoring. Obviously, wide forwards are always expected to be productive in the final third. Jeremy made great runs with passes into the centre, and Illiman also showed quality in his game.
