After Brentford's impressive victory over Chelsea, head coach Kit Andrews elaborated on why his team chose to keep pressing forward instead of adopting a more cautious approach. Andrews was keen to stick with the style that had brought them the lead.
In his post-match comments, Kit Andrews said:
When you're narrowly ahead... the traditional approach is to try to cling to what you have. But I've got options on the bench now.
I want us to keep playing boldly and positively, because it’s that very style that got us in front. I didn’t want us to change. I trust the bench, and the players who came on today had a fantastic impact on the game.
Andrews highlighted the performance of Fabio Carvalho, who scored following his return from a serious knee injury:
He’s a special person. I think he’s currently writing a wonderful story. He has a sense for goals. He’s a natural finisher, just knows where to be.
I’m incredibly happy for him because he has worked so hard to come back in good shape and find his rhythm.
The Brentford boss also commended Carvalho's composure during his goal-scoring moment, especially given that he had yet to find the net in this Premier League season:
I’m not too concerned for him. We speak almost every day, and we have a special relationship. He took his chance with great calm, particularly considering he hadn’t scored in the league yet. Overall, his performance was amazing.
Andrews continued to speak about the atmosphere within the team, emphasising his expectations for further progress:
Every day I see humility and hunger in this group. We have immense respect for one another, but we will continue to improve. In this league, you must constantly evolve.
We’re trying to push our limits and be as open with each other as possible. Let’s keep on this path, as I really enjoy it.
